PERU MISSION PARTNERSHIP

God has given PGBC the privilege of partnering with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and the REAP (Rapid Entry Advanced Planning) North Missionary Team of which our own, Larry and Nancy Jackson are a part. This partnership over the next four years involves ministering to and in the Province of Recuay, Peru. Our goal is to send four teams each year over the next four years to share Jesus Christ with the lost, disciple believers, equip leaders, minister to children and families, and build up the kingdom of God.

Volunteers from our church and from other Baptist churches that might choose to partner with us have the privilege to invest in the lives of the people of this province which is made up of numerous towns and villages. The population in this province is approx. 20,000 with Christians making up about 1% of the population. Our goal is to raise this amount to 15% or more as new churches are started. As you can tell, this is a new and unique opportunity for our church body.

Evangelistic Focus: One method we will use is abundant gospel sowing. This may include prayer walking, door to door visitation, Jesus Film, Backyard Bible Clubs for children, worship services in established house churches, sports evangelism, and the starting of Bible studies for men and women in homes.

Trip Cost: Most of the trips will cost close to $1100. The cost is not always a set amount due to the changes in airfare, ground transportation, and lodging. However, as each trip is planned, all volunteers will know exactly what that particular trip will cost and they should not exceed $1100. This fee will cover round trip airfare, in country transportation, lodging, lunch and dinner each day while on site in Recuay, insurance, and orientation materials.

Teams: Teams have been comprised of from 2 to 17 persons so far. There is not a limit on how many can go. However, as larger groups go different arrangements need to be made and can be made. We hire interpreters to work with us and they have been wonderful to work with to date. Our teams are open to at least two members from sister Baptist churches. We want to make spaces available to members from other Baptist churches that do not currently have an international mission program in place or just want to serve the Lord.

Health: Team members must be in good physical health. In many instances, we will be ministering and living in altitudes of around 10,000 ft. Consult your physician if you are concerned about your health in that regard. In addition, consult your physician concerning immunizations for ministering in Peru. Malaria preventative medicine is not needed for Lima nor the mountains of Recuay.

Travel: Travel is currently being arranged by PGBC.

Living and Working Conditions: For the rest of 2005, we will be staying in the town of Recuay (same name as the Province). The hostel where we will be living is certainly not plush but is very livable. We have video of the accommodations so you can see for yourself. As the Partnership progresses, the living and travel conditions will vary and may be difficult at times. At this point, no one from the church has been into all of the parts of the Province we will be responsible for. As we do research on the areas, we will know where we are going on each trip so interested members will know in advance what the conditions will be.

That is one of the many interesting parts of this Partnership. Our Church has the privilege of taking the love of Jesus into an area where there are no missionaries. We are the missionaries. The REAP Team along with Larry and Nancy are our leaders, our guides, our supervisors, our encouragers, and our trainers. Once we are trained, the project belongs to PGBC. The REAP Team is responsible for the whole top half of the country of Peru and our part of that is the Province of Recuay. It is 1st Century missionary work (Book of Acts). If what the Apostle Paul and others did is of interest to you, you need to be involved in one of several ways.

What do to if you want to go:

    1. Pray

    2. Turn in your $200 deposit to Pastor Marty Tobin or a member of the staff. This confirms and holds you a spot.

    3. Go through the process to get a passport.

    4. Commit to attend planning and preparation meetings prior to the trip.

    5. Take care of immunizations

    6. Pay the balance due prior to departure

What to do if you can't go, but want to be involved:

    1. Pray, Pray, Pray!

    2. Give toward materials if your Sunday School class or small group has the opportunity to adopt someone that is going.

    3. As you feel led, provide funds so that others can go.

    4. Help in ministry materials preparation-craft items, salvation bracelets, etc.
